Youth

Our Lady of the Rosary is committed to the faith formation of our teens by the examples of our Pastor Fr. Dennis Wassmuth, deacons, youth minister, and our greater faith community. Offering programs that promote community, social issues, sacramental preparation, and a deeper knowledge of their faith - we try and give them the tools to explore their faith and themselves as they enter junior high school, high school and beyond.

If you have any questions about the programs offered or are interested in getting involved, please contact Cindy Anderson.

Impact

The weekly youth night for all seventh and eighth graders, IMPACT, is Wednesday nights at 6:30PM. Doors open at 6:00 for foosball, ping pong or just hanging out. We're done by 8:00. We have fun, food and friends. You can expect some church teaching, prayer, relationship-building, and plenty of games too.

Hi Impact

Hi Impact is open to all 9th - 12th grade students. We have HI IMPACT nearly every Sunday night from 6:00 to 8:00PM. Doors open at 5:30PM to hang out and play ping pong or foosball. There will be nights about issues that affect teens, nights about the Church, the Bible, traditions and theology, social time, service projects, prayer experiences, and a bunch of fun stuff along with meeting new friends. Check out the calendar on the Youth page for other events and activities. This fall semester theme is The Creed. Come check out the great outline of your faith and what does that mean in your everyday lives. A dynamic young couple, Phil & Becca Stich are our amazing Program Leaders for our Hi Impact program!

Dead Theologians Society

"DTS" is a Catholic apostolate for High School teens. Through the Saints of Yesterday, the Dead Theologians Society Inspires the Youth of Today, to Become the Saints of Tomorrow.

Its motto is, "Dead to the World, Alive in Christ!" This is inspired by Romans 6:11 where St. Paul tells us to be dead to sin but alive in Christ Jesus.

Sunday nights the youth room is open at 5:30PM for hanging out and games, and DTS breaks out from 6:00 to 8:00PM on the stage.

Confirmation

The preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is open to teens who will be between the ages of sixteen and nineteen at the time of reception (May) who have been baptized Catholic and received First Holy Communion.

This preparation will be a challenging time for us to examine the place of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit in our lives. Our program goal is to challenge each candidate to be a witness for Christ and His Church and to determine if they are ready to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The goal of this preparation is achieved through components of catechesis (instruction in the Faith), liturgy (public prayer and sacraments), service, and community building activities. Registration for Confirmation must be completed in September.

If you are eligible for Confirmation and have not Registered, please contact Cindy Anderson.

Guidlines for Confirmation

The preparation for the Sacrament for Confirmation at OLR is a two year requirement. This is the same guideline used for First Communion and Reconciliation. The community component is an important part of the teen's ability to begin gaining full knowledge to their apparent readiness to receive this sacrament.
Below are the requirements and guidelines that the Youth Ministry office with Pastoral direction have set in place for a successful preparation of the sacrament. If the requirements and guidelines are not followed, we will conclude that preparation is not desired.

  • Youth in grade 9 who have been baptized Catholic and have received first Holy Communion.
  • Youth need to be supported in their faith through regular Mass attendance with their families.
  • Youth must attend weekly Hi Impact youth nights. (Sunday 6-8 pm) A 75% attendance in class is required. All high school (grades 9-12) are encouraged to attend all Hi Impact youth nights and other youth functions to experience being part of the community into which they belong to.
  • Youth must attend the weekly confirmation break out sessions from January to May in their second year (10th grade) of the preparation process.
  • You will need to attend an interview just prior to the Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation with the Youth Ministry Coordinator, a Core Member, or the Pastor.
  • Teens must attend a Confirmation Retreat during the second year of this process.
  • Sponsor and Teen must attend a "Sponsor Retreat Night" in the second year of preparation.

Confirmation will be granted based upon the apparent readiness and willingness of the youth to accept initiation as a Catholic adult and to begin practicing their Catholic faith as such.

T3: The Teen Timeline

T3 is the foundational teen bible study based on The Great Adventure Bible Timeline seminar created by Jeff Cavins. T3 unpacks God's word in a manner teens can relate to by showing the "big picture" of salvation history, and it gives then an overview of scripture - and leads then deeper into its riches. The T3 DVD's are presented by LIFE TEEN's Mark Hart, a dynamic speaker that is really in touch with today's Catholic teens.

If you would like more info on T3 contact Cindy Anderson for the details!
